Regularly organized every two years in the end of March, the International Competition of Epinal welcomes competitors, they come this year from 21 States of the world, which are listened to by an International Jury constituted with important personalities of the music world

The objective of the International Competition of Piano is naturally to allow certain competitors to be recognized to the prize list, with the aim of a future international career.

But, it is also a meeting with the population (approximately 4 000 music lovers come to the Municipal theatre during the week) and the only experience for the young pianists thanks to the contact with all the schools of piano of the world.

With the support without defect of the City of Epinal, the Department of Vosges, the Region of Lorraine, and the House Hanlet (Steinway France), this competition became one of the big French musical events.

Le Concours International de Piano d'Epinal a été créé en 1970 par

Madame Suzanne CHEVALIER.

Il était l'émanation du "Concours Artistique d'Epinal" (qui existe toujours) à l'instigation de

Monsieur Albert Ehrmann,

Président de la Confédération Musicale de France, et président de l'Ordre des Musiciens.

En 1972, il est décidé que le concours sera une biennale et le quatrième Concours, en 1973, compte une vingtaine de candidats. Le Premier Prix est décerné à une jeune Philippine :

 Maria-Louisa LOPEZ-VITO.

Avec l'aide du

Professeur de Conservatoire YANKOFF

le Concours devient un véritable évènement culturel et, en 1979, le Concours reçoit l'agrément de la Fédération Mondiale des Concours Internationaux de Musique de Genève.

En 1980, après le décès brutal de Suzanne Chevalier la responsabilité du concours est assumée par :

Madame Henry Najean

Grâce à son dévouement, sa compétence et son mécénat personnel, Madame Najean confère au Concours sa dimension mondiale.
